Hannu Raittila (born November 23, 1956 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish writer and columnist .

life and work

Raittila spent his childhood in the Helsinki district of Katajanokka . In his youth he was attached to communist ideas. Raittila studied history and philosophy at Helsinki University .

From 1982 to 1986 Hannu Raittila was a television critic for the Finnish newspaper Aamulehti , and from 1986 to 1992 a columnist for the same newspaper. In 1995/96 he was a columnist at Turun Sanomat and from 2003 to 2005 he worked for the most important Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat . In 1998 he achieved his literary breakthrough with the novel Ei minulta mitään puutu (German: Sintflut , 2007).

Hannu Raittila's style is extremely laconic . In his books the sometimes absurd stories are told from a mosaic of different character types and several subjective points of view. The reader has to get an idea of ​​what is going on from different perspectives. Usually the plot takes a grotesque course, which is described in the form of real satire . A technocratically thinking person often plays an important role , whose thoughts, points of view and comments give Raittila's books a special touch.

Today Raittila lives in Mikkeli and is married to the Finnish writer Mari Mörö (* 1963). His works have been translated into English, German, Swedish and Hungarian.

Awards

Raittila has received numerous Finnish literary awards, including the 1990 children's and youth radio play award from the public broadcaster YLE for his radio play Matokuningas , the Kalevi Jäntin award in 1994, the Olvi Foundation's literature award in 1998 and the Suomi award from the Finnish Ministry of Education in 1998 and in 2001 the prestigious Finlandia Prize for his novel Canal Grande .
