Katajanokka ( Swedish. Skatudden ) is a sub-area ( Finnish. Osa-alue ) and a district ( kaupunginosa ) of the Finnish capital Helsinki with just under 4100 inhabitants. Katajanokka is located on a peninsula in the east of downtown Helsinki. Since the 19th century, the peninsula has been separated from the mainland by a canal and can be reached via four bridges. A Soviet air raid on Helsinki in the Continuing War on February 6, 1944 caused considerable damage in Katajanokka.

The south side of Katajanokka is occupied by the port . In the 1980s the movement of goods was shifted to other ports and the port magazines were converted for other purposes. Since then, the terminal in Katajanokka has only been used for passenger traffic. From here lay ferries to Stockholm and Tallinn from. The Finnish icebreaker fleet is moored on the north bank of Katajanokka in summer.

The rest of the district consists essentially of residential areas and green spaces. The western part of Katajanokka was built in Art Nouveau style at the beginning of the 20th century and is now an attractive residential area. In the eastern part there was a shipyard until 1975 . After their closure, the site was converted into a modern residential area.

The most famous landmark of Katajanokka is the widely visible Orthodox Uspenski Cathedral , which stands on a rock on the western edge of the peninsula. The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( Merikasarmi ) and numerous hotels are also located on Katajanokka . A prison also existed there until 2002, but it was restored and converted into the Marriott Hotel Katajanokka with a “prison atmosphere”.
