Pakila ( Swedish Baggböle ) is a district ( kaupunginosa ) of the Finnish capital Helsinki with around 9800 inhabitants. The district includes the sub-areas Länsi- and Itä-Pakila .
Pakila was once part of the Helsinki rural community . In the 19th century the village was still exclusively Swedish-speaking. The population was around 40. In the 20th century, Pakila gradually became a suburb of Helsinki and from then on the district was mainly inhabited by poorer sections of the population, which is why the left-wing socialist SKDL had a stronghold here after the war . In addition, the population increased noticeably as Karelian refugees came to Pakila. In the following decades the district developed into a middle class area and the conservative-bourgeois National Collection Party became the strongest force in Pakistan.
The writer Martti Larni (1909–1993) was born in Pakila.
