Taka-Töölö ( rear Töölö ; Swedish Bortre Tölö ) is a district ( kaupunginosa ) and municipality ( peruspiiri ) of the Finnish capital Helsinki .

Taka-Töölö is located north of the Etu-Töölö district , from which it is separated by the Hesperian esplanadi Park . Other neighboring districts are Alppiharju and Kallio in the west and Meilahti , Laakso and Pasila in the north. To the southeast of the district is the Töölönlahti bay , to the west is the Hietaniemenlahti bay . The border to Alppiharju and Kallio is defined by the railway lines between the Pasila and Hauptbahnhof stations, while the Nordenskiöldinkatu delimits the district of Laakso and Pasila. The common border with Meilahti runs in the Stenbäckinkatu .

The area was used for agriculture until the beginning of the 20th century. Most of the Taka-Töölös development dates from the 1920s and 1930s. The district itself can be divided into the areas to the west and east of the Mannerheimintie street . While there are residential quarters to the west around Sibelius Park , the Helsinki Olympic Stadium forms the center of Taka-Töölö's east. There is also the Sonera Stadium , which opened in 2000 , the Töölön kisahalli sports hall , where gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting and basketball finals were held at the 1952 Summer Olympics , and the Helsingin Jäähalli ice rink, which opened in 1966 .
