Belle Toujours is a 2006 Portuguese-French film directed by Manoel de Oliveira .
action
The film is designed as a sequel to Luis Buñuel's film Belle de Jour from 1967. Henri Husson meets Séverine Sérizy by chance in a concert after a few decades. After some reluctance, she agrees to dinner for two, which she leaves prematurely after a long conversation when Henri repeatedly talks about the excesses of her past.
reception
The film pays homage to Buñuel, whom Oliveira especially admires for his irony in his desperation towards people, and with whom he shares a respect for the private. Again Michel Piccoli plays the admirer Husson, while Séverine is played by Bulle Ogier in 2006 ( portrayed by Catherine Deneuve in 1967 ). The expressive photography of the film and especially the precisely drawn characters in their upper-class, ostensibly cultivated ambience are the essential features here.
"The artfully refined, representationally excellent reflection shows people who suffer from their sick feelings and cannot escape their supposed destiny."
The film premiered on September 8, 2006 at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for various awards, including the Globo de Ouro and the European Film Awards .
