The Hanomag partner is the prototype of a small car that the Hanoverian automobile manufacturer Hanomag presented at the Frankfurt IAA in 1951 as the successor to the 1.3 liter model that had been discontinued ten years earlier . With this car, Hanomag wanted to try to return to the car market.
The car had a three - cylinder two-stroke engine (designed by Müller-Andernach ) with a displacement of 697 cc and 28 hp. It drove the front wheels via a three-speed gearbox with a steering wheel shift. The self-supporting all-steel body in pontoon shape with two doors hinged at the rear was built by Karmann in Osnabrück and offered space for three adults on the front bench. Behind it, two children could take a seat in emergency seats. All four wheels were individually suspended on anti-vibration rubber torsion spring bodies, the front on double wishbones, the rear on trailing arms.
Although the car was up to date in terms of design and technology, it was so poorly received by the public that it did not go into series production. Only 20 pre-series vehicles were built, 6 of which were exhibited at the IAA in Frankfurt am Main . (Almost) all copies were then scrapped and Hanomag finally abandoned car manufacturing. Only one vehicle with the serial number 0008 is currently known, it has been completely restored and is ready to drive in the Karmann Museum in Osnabrück.
