The Hanomag Sturm Typ 22 K was brought onto the market in 1934 by the Hanoverian automobile manufacturer Hanomag as the first model of the upper middle class .
Its six-cylinder in-line engine with hanging valves , side camshaft and 2.25 liter displacement developed 50 hp (37 kW) at 3500 rpm and transmitted its power to the rear wheels via a four-speed gearbox. The car had a box-profile low frame, a rigid axle at the rear , which was suspended on semi-elliptical leaf springs, and in the front independent suspension on transverse leaf springs. The frame and design of the engine corresponded to those of the smaller Rekord model , with the engine having six instead of four cylinders. The car was available as a two- or four-door sedan (with a body from Ambi-Budd ), a 4-seater convertible or a 2-seater roadster.
In 1936, the convertible and roadster with a modernized and extended body under the name were Hanomag Sturm Type 23 K continued to be built. They got perforated disk wheels. The 4-door sedan was given a chassis with a longer wheelbase and initially retained the disc wheels as the Hanomag Sturm Type 23 Kl .
From 1937, a more powerful engine with 55 hp (40 kW) was offered for all models. The sedan now got perforated disc wheels.
A diesel version was initially planned and was shown at the Paris Motor Show in 1936. It had a six-cylinder engine with 2860 cm³ and made 37 kW. This would have been the first six-cylinder diesel engine in a German production car. However, Hanomag did not start series production.
In 1939 the production of the Hanomag Sturm was stopped after a total of 4885 copies.
