Hans-Dieter Cleven (born May 13, 1943 in Würzburg ; legal resident in Hünenberg ZG , Switzerland ) is a Swiss manager and entrepreneur .

Career

Nothing is publicly known about Cleven's family, his origins, childhood and youth. As a trained businessman, he was CFO of the Metro Group for over 35 years . As managing director of Beisheim Holding , he was the right hand of Metro founder Otto Beisheim , for whom he helped to build up the trading company. He sat on the Metro Supervisory Board until May 2003 and later managed Beisheim's billion-dollar fortune.

Cleven was the founder of the Cleven Becker Foundation in 2004 together with tennis player Boris Becker and is now the sole director of the Cleven Becker Foundation (renamed the Cleven Foundation after Becker withdrew from the Board of Trustees at the turn of 2011/2012). The Cleven Foundation in Germany focuses on promoting health and physical activity in children. It implements the major project “fit4future”, from which around 600 primary schools with around 170,000 children throughout Germany benefited in 2016.

After his professional career in the Metro Group, Hans-Dieter Cleven ended his managerial and supervisory mandates in 2003 in order to concentrate on the administration of his own companies and since 2004 to dedicate himself to his foundation. After the foundation was established in Switzerland , the Foundation Germany was established in 2009 with its seat in Munich .

Cleven has advised Boris Becker since 1999. When Becker's agency BBM (“Boris Becker Marketing”) closed its operations, Cleven's own Swiss company BCI Holding took over the marketing. In 1999, Becker acquired a stake in the sporting goods company Völkl , which was taken over by Cleven and the Swiss Gregor Furrer in 1992. At the end of the 2000s, the two parted ways on business.

Cleven is a member of the TC Zug and is considered an influential supporter of athletes. He is involved in the Zug-based marketing agency 4Sports, which looks after around 170 top athletes, including golf professionals and tennis players. He is known in Germany as the majority shareholder of the largest European golf resort in Bad Griesbach , Bavaria . In 2015 he brought the Porsche European Open golf tournament to the Bavarian province.

The business magazine Bilanz estimated his fortune in 2014 at 125 million francs.
