Hans-Günther van Look (born February 26, 1939 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † May 23, 2007 there ) was a German painter and sculptor .

life and work

Hans-Günther van Look studied at the Karlsruhe Art Academy from 1958 to 1963 . He was a student of Georg Meistermann . Between 1969 and 1977 he received several scholarships (scholarship from the Kulturkreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft , Deutsche Akademie Rome Villa Massimo ).

Van Look was fascinated by the subject of "light and space". From 1981 to 1987 he was chairman of the community of Christian artists of the Archdiocese of Freiburg. Christian art was an important element in his work. Among other things, he created two church windows in the Freiburg Cathedral . One depicts the nun Edith Stein , who was first depicted on a window in the Freiburg Cathedral. The other is a wheel window in which van Look has given faces to six women known for their mercy. He created the celebration altar in the Church of St. Leodegar in Bad Bellingen in the 1970s .

A commemorative exhibition was held in Freiburg in 2009 in honor of his seventieth birthday.
