Hans-Georg Lemme

Hans-Georg Lemme (born July 1, 1953 in Wittenberge ; † August 19, 1974 near Lütkenwisch ) was a fatality on the inner-German border .

Life

Hans-Georg Lemme had been doing military service with the People's Police in Schwerin since November 1973 . He was deserted on August 18, 1974. On the evening of August 19, 1974, Hans-Georg Lemme tried to swim across the Elbe to reach the Federal Republic of Germany. He was asked to come on board from a patrol boat. He ignored this. The second time the boat started, he was run over by the boat and drowned. On September 6, his body was recovered from the Elbe by GDR border troops.

The boat driver Hans-Ulrich P. was acquitted in 1998 by the Schwerin Regional Court because he could not prove an intent to kill.

The square at the Lütkenwisch-Schnackenburg ferry terminal itself was named Hans-Georg-Lemme-Platz on October 3, 2014 as part of a joint commemorative event by the communities of Schnackenburg and Lanz .
