Hans-Gert Stein

Hans-Gert Stein (born August 24, 1929 , † October 21, 1998 ) was a German handball player and coach.

Life

Stein started playing handball at SV Leipzig Ost. He became world champion in large field handball with the all-German national team in 1959 . In 1957 he had already completed his studies at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig with the thesis “Structure and content of collective tactics in indoor handball”. From then on, he led the students in handball at the DHfK as a university teacher. In 1958 he was invited to China to pass on his handball skills.

In 1961 Stein became the trainer of the SC DHfK Leipzig . Stein, who was determined by careful game preparation, never used to be particularly loud when dealing with his players, but instead relied on explaining his instructions thoroughly. In 1966, Stein led the Leipzig team to win the European Champion Clubs' Cup , after which he passed the coaching position to Paul Tiedemann and worked again at the DHfK as a university professor.

Stein published handball textbooks, including the work “Systematics of Technique and Tactics of the Handball Game”, which appeared in several editions, as well as the work “Handball”, which was published together with Edgar Federhoff and which was also published several times, and “Handball. Instructions for the trainer ”(among others together with Lothar Fährmann ).
