Hans-Hermann Junge
Hans Hermann Junge (* 11. February 1914 in Wilster , Holstein , † 13 August 1944 at Dreux in France ) was a German SS - officer , who for Adolf Hitler as aide and personal servant was assigned.
Private life
With Hitler's consent, Junge married his secretary Traudl Junge , née Humps, on July 14, 1943 . The witnesses were Hitler's adjutant Otto Günsch and Hitler's driver Erich Kempka .
Professional development
Junge joined the SS in 1933 and in 1934 volunteered for the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler , which Hitler had founded and placed under his control. From July 1, 1936, he was a member of the Führer Accompanying Command , which was supposed to guarantee the Führer’s personal safety. From 1937 Junge was assigned to Hitler as an orderly officer, next to Heinz Linge also as the Fuehrer's second servant, and was deployed both in the Reich Chancellery in Berlin and in the Berghof near Berchtesgaden. However, both were de facto the ones who had to manage and organize Hitler's household and daily routine, according to Traudl Junge. They took turns in this activity every two days, had to wake Hitler up, take care of his cloakroom, and provide him with important reports, documents and newspapers.
On July 14, 1943, Junge joined the 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitler Youth" . His wife Traudl noted in her autobiography that he saw his repeated requests for transfer to the front, which Hitler had rejected, as the only soldierly option to be released from service with Hitler. When Hitler finally granted his last application, he was deployed on the Eastern Front in December 1943 . In April 1944 he first returned to Germany in order to be deployed on the Western Front in June 1944 shortly after the Western Allies landed .
He was killed at the age of 30 in a US low-flying attack on his observation post near Dreux . His last rank was SS-Obersturmführer . Hitler is said to have been informed directly and to have brought the news of his death to Traudl Junge himself. Junge was buried at the German war cemetery Champigny-Saint-André in Saint-André-de-l'Eure , five kilometers from Champigny-la-Futelaye , Département Eure , Block 6, grave 1816.
