Hans-Jörg Böckeler

Hans-Jörg Böckeler (born September 5, 1944 in Bonn ; † March 18, 2018 in Krefeld ) was a German composer .

Böckeler wrote numerous New Spiritual Songs , mainly based on texts by Wilhelm Willms and Klaus Luchterfeld . As a church musician , he worked at the Catholic churches of St. Dionysius ( Krefeld , 1966–1975) and Christ König ( Duisburg , 1976–1996), among others . The collaboration with Wilhelm Willms, who was chaplain there at the same time, began in St. Dionysius. In 1996, Böckeler converted to the Protestant faith and was cantor at the Protestant Church of Peace in Krefeld from 2004 to 2017.

Together with Frank Kirchner ( Herbert Grönemeyer's saxophonist ) he improvised on choral themes. He also directed the Dionysius Choir Krefeld for almost fifty years .
