Hans-Joachim Meyer-Rienecker

Hans-Joachim Meyer-Rienecker (born August 25, 1930 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ; † May 22, 2014 in Rostock ) was a German neurologist and university professor.

Life

After working in surveying, Meyer-Rienecker made up his Abitur in 1954 and then studied medicine at the University of Rostock until 1960 . In the same year he received his doctorate . He completed specialist training at the Rostock Clinic for Neurology and Psychiatry and was appointed senior physician in 1966. He became senior physician in the Department of Neurology in 1968. Meyer-Rienecker completed his habilitation in 1969 with a thesis on liquor diagnostics in inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system. In 1978 he was appointed associate professor. As a full professor of neurology, he was Johannes Sayk's successor and headed the neurological department from 1989. Meyer-Rienecker was appointed to a C4 professorship in 1992 and retired in 1995. Reiner Benecke was his successor as holder of the chair for neurology .

Act

At the Liquordiagnostik laboratory founded by Johannes Sayk at the Rostock Psychiatric Clinic, the leading facility of its kind in the GDR , Meyer-Rienecker u. a. with Rose-Marie Olischer , the liquor chemical and cytological methods and supplemented neuroimmunological diagnostics.

Meyer-Rienecker was an honorary member of the German Society for Liquordiagnostik and Clinical Neurochemistry (DGLN). He was awarded the Silver Patriotic Order of Merit in 1980.
