Reiner Benecke

Reiner Fritz Benecke (born August 27, 1949 in Cuxhaven ; † August 8, 2017 ) was a German neurologist .

Life

Reiner Benecke studied medicine at the University of Göttingen from 1968 to 1974 . In 1974 he was with the work studies the interaction of Encephabol® and ethanol at a central cholinergic synapse doctorate .

After completing his doctorate, Benecke was an assistant at the Göttingen Institute for Physiology. In 1976 he went to the University Clinic for Neurology as an assistant. From 1979 he was a senior physician. In 1983 he qualified as a professor for neurology in Göttingen with the text on the clinical evaluation of spasticity. New methodological aspects for their qualitative analysis . The following year he became professor of neurology. From 1988 to 1995 he was professor of neurology at the University of Düsseldorf . In 1995, Benecke moved to the University of Rostock as a full professor , where he became managing director of the Center for Neurology and the next year he became a member of the faculty council. From 1997 to 2000 he also acted as deputy medical director of the university clinic and was a member of the university senate from 2000 to 2004. In 2015 he retired. Alexander Storch succeeded him as director of the clinic and polyclinic for neurology .
