Hans-Jochen Schmidt

Hans-Jochen Schmidt (born April 15, 1947 in Bad Kösen ) is a German diplomat and most recently ambassador to Armenia from 2009 to 2012 .

biography

After high school in 1966 and the obligations of military service in the army , he studied from 1969 to 1975 law and put 1974 his first legal state exam from. From 1975 to 1977 he was a supervisor at Inter Nationes , the institute founded by the Foreign Ministry in 1952 to disseminate information about the Federal Republic abroad.

In 1977 he entered the diplomatic service and, after completing his preparatory service in 1979, was initially employed at the embassy in Egypt . He then worked at the headquarters of the Foreign Office from 1982 to 1986 and at the embassy in Zaïre from 1986 to 1989 . Subsequently, he was permanent representative of the Consul General in Atlanta before returning to the headquarters of the Foreign Office in 1992.

After working as deputy head of department in the Foreign Ministry from 1993 to 1996, Schmidt was permanent representative of the Consul General in Saint Petersburg between 1996 and 2000 . Thereupon he was employed as a permanent representative of the ambassador in Ukraine , before he was head of division in the Foreign Office from 2004 to 2007 . Between 2007 and 2008 he was first Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Kazakhstan and subsequently Head of the OSCE Office in Minsk .

Since October 23, 2009, he was the successor to Andrea Joana-Maria Wiktorin, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Armenia and held this office until his retirement in 2012. His successor as ambassador to Armenia on July 19, 2012 was Reiner Morell , who was previously ambassador to Turkmenistan .
