Pure Morell

Reiner Morell (born October 18, 1949 in Braunschweig ) is a German diplomat who was ambassador to Turkmenistan from 2008 to 2012 and was ambassador to Armenia between July 2012 and 2015 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Morell did his military service in the German Armed Forces between 1968 and 1970 and then studied law from 1970 to 1979 . After completing the two state law exams , he first worked as a lawyer from 1979 to 1980 and then as an administrative lawyer , before joining the Foreign Service in 1981 . After completing the career examination for the higher service, he was employed at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn in 1983 and at the Embassy in Bolivia between 1983 and 1985 and then again until 1987 in the Foreign Office.

After working as permanent representative of the ambassador in Togo between 1987 and 1990 , he was posted to the embassy in Greece until 1992 and then from 1992 to 1996 as deputy head of the legal department of the Foreign Office. In August 1996 he became consul at the Consulate General in New York City and was then Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Jordan between 1999 and 2002 and then Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Kazakhstan from 2002 to 2004 .

Between 2004 and 2007, Morell was head of the department for East Africa and the Horn of Africa in the German Foreign Office and then took part in a one-year long-term language training course.

Since July 2008, Reiner Morell has been Ambassador to Turkmenistan, succeeding Hans Mondorf , who in turn became Consul General in Chengdu . In this function, he organized, among other things, the visit of Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle to Turkmenistan in November 2011 . In 2012 he was followed by Helmut-Wolfgang Brett as ambassador to Turkmenistan.

Instead, Morell took over the office of ambassador to Armenia on July 19, 2012 , where he succeeded Hans-Jochen Schmidt , who had previously retired . In 2015 he retired himself and was replaced as Ambassador in Armenia by Matthias Kiesler .

Reiner Morell is married and has two children.
