Hans-Josef Klauck

Hans-Josef Klauck OFM (born June 4, 1946 in Hermeskeil ) is a German Catholic New Testament scholar .

biography

Klauck attended the humanistic grammar school in the college of the Cologne Franciscan Province in Baexem-Exaten near Roermond (Netherlands) until 1966 . After graduating from high school, he entered the Franciscan order on April 21, 1966 , studied philosophy and theology in Munich, Münster and Bonn and was ordained a priest on July 15, 1972 in Münster . He then worked as a pastor in the parish of St. Pankratius in Buldern and carried out biblical and Judaic studies at the University of Münster .

From 1975 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Biblical Exegesis at the University of Munich (Professor Joachim Gnilka ) and received his doctorate there in 1977. He then worked as an assistant at the institute and completed his habilitation in 1980. From 1981 to 1982, Klauck was Professor of New Testament at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Bonn , then until 1997 Professor of New Testament at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Würzburg and until 2001 at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Munich . From 1999 to 2003 he was also an honorary professor at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

Klauck was appointed to the University of Chicago Divinity School in 2001 , where he is a professor, since 2006 on the Naomi Shenston Donnelley Chair for "New Testament and Early Christian Literature". From 2003 to 2004 he was President of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas . In 2008 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Theological Faculty of the University of Zurich .
