Hans-Otto Furian

Hans-Otto Furian (born January 30, 1931 in Arnswalde ; † October 30, 2012 in Berlin ) was provost and head of the consistory of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg .

His father, Hans-Georg Furian, was a pastor in Kürtow in the Arnswalde district, confidant of the Pastors' Emergency Association and district pastor of the Confessing Church . Furian studied Protestant theology in Berlin, Tübingen and Göttingen . He did his doctorate on the subject of The Concept of Faith with Wilhelm Herrmann : Overcoming subjectivism in theology and first approaches to existential thinking with Wilhelm Herrmann . After receiving a scholarship from the World Council of Churches in Zurich, he took over a pastor's position in Libbenichen in 1959 . From 1970 to 1988 he was superintendent of the Zossen parish . From 1988 to 1990 he was provost of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg (East Region) and from 1991 to 1996 provost of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg. After reunification, he reformed the police, prison and military pastoral care.

Furian was married to Christiane Leutke, the daughter of the superintendent Fritz Leutke. They had a son and five daughters, of whom Hans-Georg (* 1960) also became superintendent and Katharina (* 1961) also became superintendent, even in the same church district as her father.
