Hans-Peter Hauri (born February 13, 1945 in Zurich ) is a Swiss biologist .

Life

Hans-Peter Hauri, emeritus professor of cell biology , conducted research from 1983 to 2010 at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel . After studying biology at the University of Zurich , he received his doctorate there in 1973 and then worked at the Pediatric Clinic of the University Hospital Bern . In 1978 he moved to Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University in Boston as a postdoctoral fellow . In 1980 he returned to Switzerland and did research in the group of Urs A. Meyer at the University of Zurich and later at the Biozentrum. Here he was appointed professor of cell biology in 1992 and full professor in 2004. In addition, he was head of studies for the biology curriculum and dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Basel.

Act

Hans-Peter Hauri researched the secretion of proteins , how they get from the place of synthesis to their destination while maintaining the integrity of the cell organelles . Among other things, Hauri has discovered that the membrane protein CLIMP-63 mediates the interaction between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and microtubules . In addition, he was able to establish the ER- Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC) as a new cell organelle of the secretion pathway. Secretory proteins, which are produced in the ER, enter the Golgi apparatus via ERGIC. With a screening method he developed, it was possible for the first time to systematically record protein interactions in the secretion pathway of living cells. He also established signal networks for the secretion process.
