Hans-Peter Lehnhoff (born July 12, 1963 in Hoengen - Mariadorf , today Alsdorf ) is a former German football player .

career

The midfielder started his professional career in 1984 at 1. FC Köln , where he quickly became a regular. In 1987 he moved to Belgium to Royal Antwerp , where he was followed in 1988 by his team-mate Ralf Geilenkirchen . They met their old club, 1. FC Köln, in the UEFA Cup in the 1988/89 season . Cologne won in the first round with 4: 2 and 2: 1. Lehnhoff won the Belgian Cup in 1992 with Antwerp . A year later he reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup with the club , which however was lost 3-1 to AC Parma .

In 1994 Lehnhoff returned to Germany and joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen . Despite outstanding players like Rudi Völler , Ulf Kirsten and Bernd Schuster , the team struggled against relegation in the 1995/96 season and was only able to save itself on the last match day. Under new coach Christoph Daum , Lehnhoff and Leverkusen were runner-up in the 1996/97 season , two points behind FC Bayern Munich . At the end of his career, he managed to do this one more time in the 1998/99 season . After his active career, he was taken on as a team supervisor in the club's supervisory staff.
