Hans-Peter Röthlin

Hans-Peter Röthlin (born March 30, 1941 in Zurich ) is a Roman Catholic church functionary.

Röthlin studied philosophy at the Belgian Catholic University of Leuven and Catholic theology in Chur . Röthlin was initially employed by the (Arch) Bishop of Augsburg, Joseph Stimpfle , as a personal advisor and head of the Synodal Office. From 1971 he was the diocese's press officer. This was followed by various tasks in the press and media work of the Catholic Church. Between 1979 and 1991, Röthlin was the information officer of the Swiss Bishops' Conference and from 1984 a member of the program committee of Swiss television , in 1991 as its president for six months. From 1991 to 1999 he was State Secretary (Sotto-Segretario) of the Pontifical Media Council in Rome and thus a high-ranking layperson within the Vatican.

From 1999 to 2008 Röthlin was President of the international Catholic aid organization Church in Need . In 2007 the Swiss was appointed to the Pontifical Council Cor Unum as a full member.
