Act as rector

Arndt was elected Rector of the University of Mannheim in 2001 after Peter Frankenberg was appointed Science Minister of Baden-Württemberg . Since then, Arndt has stood for the restructuring of the University of Mannheim in the direction of an economics university, a business school . As part of this profile formation, several courses of study at the university were closed and existing ones were networked with economics and social sciences. These reform proposals were highly controversial. The mediation of the chairman of the university council finally led the divided parties to come to a compromise. The resulting structural and development plan was then unanimously adopted in the spring semester of 2008 in the university's Senate.
