Hans Andrae

Friedrich Wilhelm Johannes "Hans" Alexander Andrae (born October 10, 1849 in Ramelow , † November 14, 1926 in Kiel ) was a German judge.

Life

Hans Andrae was the son of the landowner and politician Alexander Andrae and his wife Helene, née Flügge (1826–1890) from Amalienhof in Mecklenburg-Schwerin . His parents were seen as progressive social and were involved in church and politics.

After studying law at the University of Bonn , Andrae completed his legal clerkship and worked as an assessor. During this time he made friends with Detlev von Liliencron . Afterwards he worked as a district judge and represented the 9th constituency of Liegnitz in the Prussian state parliament from 1882 to 1888. In 1903 he took over the office of President of the Kiel Regional Court .

Volunteering

In addition to her professional activity, Andrae volunteered extensively. Together with Therese Blunck and others, he founded the Kieler Mädchenheim association in 1907 to promote work on neglected women , which he chaired until 1922. He chaired the General Association of Civil Servants and tried to help civil servants to find healthy apartments and inexpensive purchases.

From 1912 to 1920 Andrae acted as chairman of the Verein der Musik and transferred the orchestra to the sponsorship of the city of Kiel. During this time he often corresponded by letter with artists such as Max Reger , Wilhelm Furtwängler , Hermann Abendroth and Arthur Nikisch . For a longer period of time, he also headed the Gustav-Adolf-Verein as chairman and cultivated close personal relationships with Sudeten Germans and residents from North Schleswig.

During the First World War , Andrae played an important role in the German Red Cross, in the Patriotic Women's Association and in caring for wounded people. In retirement, he took over the chairmanship of the rental agreement office for many years.
