Hans Bäßler

Hans Bäßler (* 1946 in Wedel ) is a German music teacher , church musician and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1965, Hans Bäßler studied theology, philosophy and church music in Hamburg . In 1968 he passed the exams for the state examination for the higher teaching post in the subject of theology. In the same year he began studying school music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg . In 1973 and 1974, Bäßler was a trainee lawyer at the Willhöden grammar school in the Hamburg district of Blankenese and at the Christianeum in Hamburg-Othmarschen . He then worked at the Willhöden grammar school as a teacher for music, Protestant religion, philosophy and psychology. In 1978 and 1979 he took on a teaching position for piano practice at the Lübeck University of Music , from 1980 to 1982 he also taught music didactics there. From 1979 to 1994 Bäßler was head of studies for music education at the Schleswig-Holstein State Institute for practice and theory at school.

In 1994 Bäßler's doctoral thesis on "Music as Time Experience" was accepted, and in the same year he accepted a professorship for music education at the Hanover University of Music and Theater . He held this position until his retirement in March 2014. Bäßler remained teaching: until 2016 he was professor of music education at the Lübeck University of Music, and in 2017 he took up a senior professorship in music education at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater.

In addition to his work as a music teacher, Bäßler worked as an organist in Hamburg's main church St. Petri from 1970 to 1994 . From 1985 to 2014 he was co-editor of the magazine Musik und Bildung . From 1985 he sat on the federal executive board of the Association of German School Musicians and held the office of federal chairman from 1996 to 2006. In 1991 he was founding director of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Institute for Schools and Training. From 1993 to 2001 Bäßler was a member of the board of the Federal Department of Music Education and from 1997 to 2001 held the position of deputy chairman.

From 1998 to 2002 Bäßler was chairman of the association “Musik für heute”, sat on the jury of the federal competition “ Jugend musiziert ” for the first time in 2002 , was a member of the jury of the German music competition in 2005 and was responsible for musical questions on the Federal President's staff from 2002 to 2004. From 2009 to 2013 Bäßler was a member of the board of the German Music Council .

Bäßler published music pedagogical textbooks and non-fiction books, including New Music since 1960 (1999), Travels with Bach. Projects in music lessons (2000), Mönche, Minne, Musici - Music in the Middle Ages (2000) and sacred music as a lifeworld experience in and through music (2003).
