Hans Berg (lawyer)

Hans Berg (born January 3, 1877 in Rostock , † January 6, 1958 in Neustrelitz ) was a German lawyer . He is considered a pioneer of popular mission .

Life

He was the son of the Rostock chamber engineer and later mayor of Wesenberg (Mecklenburg) Hugo (Franz Gottfried Alphons) Berg and his wife Mathilde, née Haeckermann.

Berg grew up in Wesenberg in the south-east of Mecklenburg, where his father had been mayor since 1880. After attending the Rostock City School , he went to the University of Munich to study law in 1895, then moved to the University of Berlin and finally to the University of Rostock, where he matriculated for the winter semester of 1897. In 1899 he became a trainee lawyer in Neustrelitz and later in Goldberg i. Meckl. In 1905 he successfully passed the assessor examination. He received his doctorate as Dr. jur. In the same year 1905 he began his military service and was dismissed as an invalid a little later due to an unfortunate broken leg. He then became a court assessor and later mayor of Wesenberg. In 1919 he no longer stood for election and moved to Neustrelitz, where he established himself as a lawyer and notary .

In his spare time, Hans Berg was a lay evangelist in the tradition of the Inner Mission and founded and led the Evangelical Home Mission from 1928 onwards . He also published the magazine In alle Welt from 1927 . Between 1934 and 1935 he worked as a pastor in Waren (Müritz) and got into trouble when in 1935 his car mission was banned as denominational by the National Socialists.
