Hans Bernhard Kaufmann (* 12. December 1926 in Breslau , Silesia ) is a German religious educator , retired professor and author .

Life

Hans Bernhard Kaufmann's life and work are shaped by the experiences he made in his youth in Nazi Germany , which he describes as the “key to understanding my path to religious education ”. In 1954 he received his doctorate from the University of Kiel with a thesis on "Basic Questions of Luther's Education " with Fritz Blättner . After the first state examination in 1954 and the activity as a trainee lawyer and study assessor in German, Protestant religion and philosophy , the first theological examination at the regional church office in Kiel followed in 1956 . From 1955 to 1959 a businessman was Ev. Religious, German and later as philosophy teacher at a grammar school in St. Peter-Ording and in Kiel.

Services

From 1964 to 1966, Hans Bernhard Kaufmann was a professor for education at the University of Education in Kiel. From 1966 to 1972 he headed the Religious Education Institute Loccum of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover . Here, together with a team, he was responsible for the pedagogical training of future pastors and for the advanced training of religious education teachers in Lower Saxony . His 1966 lecture "Must the Bible be the focus of religious education ?" led to the foundation of thematically problem-oriented religious instruction . The theses were initially seen as the position of an outsider and aroused criticism because he argued primarily as a didactic and not as a theologian. With them he made a contribution to the orientation and professional discussion of the theory and practice of religious education and upbringing in schools.

From 1972 to 1989 he was director at the Comenius Institute in Münster . Here he initiated research projects, for example for elementary education and community education . From 1982 Kaufmann was in the founding and sponsoring group of the Christian Initiative Focus on Education .

Kaufmann is honorary professor at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.
