Religious Education Institute Loccum

The Religious Education Institute ( RPI for short ) of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover in Loccum is an institution with no legal capacity under the supervision of the Hanover Regional Church Office . It was founded in 1950 as a catechetical office, a forerunner institution had existed since 1940. Despite the changes in the work areas, the RPI continues to perform church and school tasks to this day. It is headed by a rector . The Office for Protestant Religious Education Ostfriesland (ARO) in Aurich and the RPI are institutionally linked and work together.

The RPI defines its self-image in close coordination with the goals and tasks of the regional church in the field of religious education for schools and communities. The basic task of the RPI is to provide religious-educational orientation and action knowledge to develop elementary access to the Christian faith and its ways of life. In its work areas, the RPI cooperates with state, social and church partners.

The legal framework for tasks and priorities was laid down in a church law from 1965.

The RPI offers advanced and advanced training for teachers of all types of schools in the subject of Protestant religion, educators from the day care facilities for children in Lower Saxony, deacons, pastors, volunteers and conferences for school principals and school inspectors. In the RPI, vicars of the Hanoverian regional church are trained for their religious and community educational tasks in parish and school.

The institution advises the regional church on the various pedagogical tasks of church work and takes on expert opinions for the Protestant churches in Lower Saxony (textbook reports, statements on framework guidelines and drafts for religious education by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture).

The RPI organizes educational, theoretical and political conferences and organizes national and international specialist conferences. It works in religious education commissions and national and international working groups on various thematic priorities.

A large part of this work is reflected in the publications of the RPI. Since 1987, working aids for the various types of school, confirmation lessons and documentation on various topics have been published. The "Loccumer Pelikan", the religious education journal of the RPI, appears four times a year and, in addition to discussing fundamental questions of religious education, offers information and practical help for work in schools and communities.

Cooperation between the regional church institutions in Loccum

The facilities of the Landeskirche Hannover in Loccum; RPI, Akademie Loccum, Pastoralkolleg work together and are administered by a joint administrative office.

Steering Committee

The rector of the RPI and the heads of the other institutions and the administrative office together with four representatives of the regional church office form the steering committee. The Conventual Director of Studies of the Preachers' Seminary in Loccum Monastery can take part in the meetings in an advisory capacity. A representative of the regional church office chairs the meeting. The steering committee draws up guidelines , advises on the budget and establishment plan and ensures the coordination of conference and study work. It regulates the ongoing use, the maintenance of the buildings and properties and the deployment of personnel.

Leader conference

As a subcommittee, the heads of the institutions form the leader conference, which is primarily responsible for coordinating the conference and study work.
