Fritz Blättner

Fritz Blättner (born July 7, 1891 in Pirmasens ; † November 25, 1981 in Münster ) was a German educational scientist at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . From 1946 to 1959 he headed the Institute for Education and Psychology. His successor was Theodor Wilhelm .

Life

After training as a primary school teacher, Blättner received his doctorate in Munich in 1924, became assistant to Wilhelm Flitner in Hamburg in 1931 and completed his habilitation there in 1936. Blättner was temporarily editor of the magazine " Die Erziehungs " founded in 1925 by Herman Nohl and others . At Blättner's instigation, an essay by Nohl on "The Spirituality of the Citizen in the 19th Century" - based on a lecture of the same name, for which Nohl was banned from lecturing and was forced to resume by the National Socialists - as well as an essay by Theodor Litt on "Das Relationship between the generations as a moral problem ", which he had submitted after his successful application for emeritus status in 1937, was rejected (Matthes 2011, p. 6 ff). Because of this, Nohl and Litt resigned as editors of the magazine (together with Aloys Fischer and Wilhelm Flitner). He remained a private lecturer until 1945 and lived off teaching assignments in teacher training and vocational training; it was not until 1945 that the former NSDAP member Blättner (Horn 2003, p. 160) received the long-requested associate professorship in Hamburg. He was also head of the Hamburg Adult Education Center before 1945 and was reinstated as director by the British military government . The contributions to vocational training in dealing with the humanistic concept of education are still significant today .

His history of pedagogy is best known (first in 1951; 15 editions so far). He was also a co-founder of the Pedagogical Journal . In 1967 the "History of Pedagogy" was translated into Japanese . In the preface to the Japanese edition of the "History of Education", Blättner referred to Eduard Spranger , who had already presented his "Cultural Morphological Considerations" long before him on April 3, 1937 at the Imperial University of Kyoto .

On his 90th birthday, Blättner received congratulations and a bouquet of flowers from Heidelberg transmitted by the educationalist Hermann Röhrs , who had attended events with Fritz Blättner in Hamburg as a young student in the 1930s.
