Eva Matthes

Eva Matthes (* 1962 ) is a German educator , sociologist and university professor .

Live and act

Eva Matthes studied German literature and language , history and social sciences at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg from 1981 and graduated in 1987 with the state examination. From 1990 to 1996 she was a research assistant at the Pedagogical Institute of the Friedrich-Alexander University. In 1991, she was with a thesis on Wolfgang Klafki to Dr. phil. PhD . For her dissertation she received the "Karl Giehrl Award 1992" from the Friedrich-Alexander University. In 1997 she completed her habilitation in pedagogy with a thesis on the attempts of representatives of the West German educational sciences to deal with National Socialism.

From 1997 to 1998 she had a teaching position for educational science at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Leipzig, where she was involved in setting up the Theodor Litt Research Center. Then she was a private lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute of the Friedrich Alexander University. In 2000 she was appointed to the chair for education at the Philosophical and Social Science Faculty of the University of Augsburg . From 2005 she supervised 17 doctorates and from 2009 four habilitations (as of 2018).

Eva Matthes was a board member of the Historical Educational Research section of the German Society for Educational Science , from 2011 to 2015 as chairwoman. Since 2001 she has been chairwoman of the International Society for Historical and Systematic Research on Textbooks and Educational Media. She is a member and since 2011 the spokesperson for the editorial board of the journal Bildung und Erziehung . Together with Guido Pollak and Werner Wiater, she is the editor of the book series Education and Ethics .
