Hans Bernitt

Hans Bernitt , pseudonyms Ludwig Rathsack and Erich Puls (born April 26, 1899 in Schwaan ; † March 13, 1954 in Rostock ), was a German educator and writer .

Life

Hans Bernitt was born the son of the craftsman Wilhelm Bernitt and his wife Johanna. After primary school, Hans Bernitt attended the teachers' seminar in Neukloster from 1913 to 1916 and then again after the end of the First World War from 1919 to 1920 . 1917–1918 he served as a soldier. From 1921, after attending the teachers' college, Bernitt worked as a primary school teacher in Rostock. He had been a member of the SPD since 1918 and was also actively involved in politics. From 1927 to 1933 Hans Bernitt was elected city councilor in Rostock. He gave up this function in 1933 and resigned from the party in the same year. In 1933 he was discharged from school. Hans Bernitt was monitored by the Gestapo . He was unemployed until 1936 and then found a job as an office assistant at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

After the end of the Second World War , Hans Bernitt was a district school councilor from 1945 to 1946. He then directed a course for history teachers from 1946 to 1947. From June 1947 he was appointed to the new state government of Mecklenburg. He was a senior councilor for history in the Ministry of Popular Education. In 1948 he gave lectures on the history of the German labor movement at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Rostock . In 1949 he was given a lectureship in the history of recent times.

Hans Bernitt was married to Elisabeth, born in 1922. Pulse (1897-1959). The Rostock art scholar and museologist Johann Joachim Bernitt (1925–1992) was his son.

Bernitt had already delivered his first literary works: stories from him were published in Hinstorff'sMecklenburgische Monatshefte ” . Bernitt published partly under the pseudonyms Ludwig Rathsack and Erich Puls . In the story “Sägelslädens” (sailing sleigh) from 1927, impressions are processed that Bernitt had gained as a school assistant in Wustrow on the Fischland from 1916–1917 .

In the book “Vom alten und vom neue Mecklenburg”, which was first published in 1954 by Petermänken Verlag Schwerin , Hans Bernitt re-examined the history of Mecklenburg in almost 100 chapters. He also published the book "On the History of the City of Rostock". Both books are available in new editions today.
