Hans Blömer (born May 29, 1923 in Bad Tölz ; † April 22, 2020 ) was a German physician . He is considered a pioneer of invasive cardiology and pacemaker therapy in Germany.

Life

Hans Blömer was the son of a general practitioner in Kelheim an der Donau. After his school days in Metten , military service in Italy and studying medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , which he graduated with a doctorate in 1950, he first became a physiologist . Blömer received his cardiological training in the leading centers of the time, in Stockholm with Gustav Nylin , in London with John McMichael and Paul Wood and at the Mayo Clinic , USA, with Howard Bertram Burchell and Earl Howard Wood .

Act

Blömer established the first modern cardiology department in Munich at the Technical University of Munich. In 1954 he performed the first cardiac catheterization in Munich and developed phonocardiography and auscultation into important diagnostic methods. Hans Blömer completed his habilitation in 1957 and was appointed adjunct professor at LMU Munich in 1964 . Since June 1, 1960, he was chief physician of the 1st Medical Department (focus on cardiology, angiology and pulmonology ) at the hospital on the right of the Isar . In 1967 he was appointed full professor of internal medicine and director of the I. Medical Clinic of the Technical University of Munich at the Klinikum rechts der Isar and established one of the leading cardiological university clinics. In 1980 he was President of the German Society for Cardiology . In 1992 he retired.

honors and awards

Due to his services to the German Society for Cardiology (DGK) he was made an honorary member, the “Young Investigator Award” of the DGK for clinical cardiovascular research was named after him. He has received numerous honors and prizes, including the Ernst von Bergmann Plaque (1987), the Werner Forßmann Prize, the Bavarian Order of Merit and the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art .
