Jim Alford
Jim Alford (actually James William Llewellyn Alford ; born October 15, 1913 in Cardiff , † August 5, 2004 in London ) was a British middle-distance runner .
At the International Student Games in 1937 he won the 800 m and 1500 m .
In 1938 he won the mile run for Wales starting at the British Empire Games in Sydney and finished fourth over 880 yards . At the European Athletics Championships in Paris , he was seventh over 1500 m.
In 1948 he became the first national athletics coach for Wales. Among other things, he looked after the Olympic medalists Ken Jones and Nick Whitehead and advised the Irish Olympic champion Ron Delany .
