Gustav Bodechtel

Gustav Bodechtel (born March 17, 1899 in Nuremberg , † July 10, 1983 in Munich ) was a German internist and neurologist . His research on the subject of brain changes in internal and mental illnesses as well as his textbook edition on the "Differential Diagnosis of Neurological Diseases" (1958) are considered important research results in the fields of psychology and neurology.

Life

Gustav Bodechtel came from Nuremberg and was the son of a factory worker. His paternal great-grandfather was a well-known organ and harpsichord builder in Nuremberg. Bodechtel attended a secondary school in Nuremberg. He was Protestant.

Bodechtel studied medicine and natural sciences in Munich and Erlangen and completed his studies in 1923 with the promotion of Dr. phil. from. In 1928 he took on a job as an assistant doctor at the gynecological polyclinic in Munich. From 1927 he then worked at the anatomical department of the German Research Institute for Psychiatry in Munich. In 1928 he was promoted to Dr. med is doing his doctorate.

From 1930 he worked as a doctor in the internal medicine department of the Munich-Schwabing hospital and one year later became senior physician at the Medical University Clinic in Erlangen. Another year later , Bodechtel completed his habilitation in Erlangen as a private lecturer in neurology and internal medicine. In 1935 he moved to the Hamburg Eppendorf Psychiatric Clinic as chief physician and qualified as an associate professor at the University of Hamburg . His last change of clinic followed in 1938 to the internal department of the municipal hospital in Dortmund . In 1940 he followed a call as a full professor and director of the II. University Clinic in Munich and full professor for internal medicine. In particular, he researched brain changes in internal diseases.
