Hans Blome the Younger came from one of the leading families in the city of Hanover. He was the son of the mayor Hans Blome the Elder, who was in office from 1457 to 1462 .

Blome worked as councilor of Hanover in 1481, 1482 and 1486. From the following year 1487 to 1515 he was elected a total of thirteen times to the office of mayor.

Blome was married to Gesche von Wintheim. One of his granddaughters was Dorothea Garsen .

Grave slab

The tombstone drawn by the Hanoverian chronicler Johann Heinrich Redecker "in the chapel" , the lower right corner of which was covered by a step, was found next to that of his granddaughter Dorothea Garßen. Both were presumably buried in the St. Anne's Chapel, which was built to the north of the Marktkirche , next to the stairs. In addition to Hans Blome, his son-in-law, the mayor and city chronicler Henning Brandis, who died on March 29, 1529 and who had previously fled from Hildesheim, is said to be buried. However, the chapel where Brandis was buried next to Blome was - possibly accidentally - referred to as the Chapel of Our Lady .

Four medallions with the symbols of the evangelists were carved into the corners of Blome's grave slab. The stone with the surrounding inscription showed a shield with the Blomes coat of arms in the inner field, on whose shield there were nine flowers.
