Hans Bock (politician)

Hans Bock (actually Johann Bock , born November 27, 1914 in Vienna ; † August 7, 2002 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Bock was the executive city councilor and deputy mayor in Vienna.

Bock was born in Hernals in 1914 and became a member of the Socialist Workers' Youth in 1929. In 1933 he rose to chairman of the young workers in Hernals. After the suppression of the Austrian Civil War in 1934, Bock operated illegally and was head of the Revolutionary Socialist Youth from 1935. He was imprisoned for a total of 18 months for his commitment. After the end of the Second World War, Bock co-founded the district organization of the SPÖ in Hernals in 1945 and was active as a district council between 1946 and 1949. On December 17, 1948, Bock moved up for Franz Olah in the Vienna State Parliament and City Council, of which he was a member until February 28, 1977.

After Johann Riemer's death, on January 17, 1964, Bock succeeded the Jonas III state government as the new executive city councilor for personnel, administrative and operational reform . Bock also held office and department in the successor governments Jonas IV , Marek I and II , Slavik and Gratz I , and from December 1970 he was also 1st Vice Mayor and 1st Deputy Governor. On November 23, 1973, Bock resigned from the city senate and the Vienna provincial government. In 1974 he took over the function of Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Wiener Holding.

In addition to his political career, Bock was President of the WAT between 1972 and 1982 and also President of the Vienna Sports Club . After his death, Bock was buried in the Hernals cemetery . The Hans-Bock-Park , a green area in front of the Schafbergbad , was named after him in 2005.
