Hans Bongers

Hans M. Bongers (born December 5, 1898 in Itzehoe ; † June 23, 1981 in Bollendorf ) was a German businessman. In 1954 he was appointed to the 1st board of the then re-established Lufthansa AG . Bongers, who already held leading positions at Lufthansa during the Weimar Republic and the Nazi era , is regarded as a pioneer in commercial aviation in Germany due to his commitment to rebuilding civil aviation after the Second World War. His name is closely linked to the success of Lufthansa.

Life

Bongers studied business administration in Munich from 1919 to 1921 and worked at the same time for the Junkers aviation company in Dessau . In 1923 he rose to management at Junkers. Since the merger with Aero Lloyd in 1926, which led to the founding of Lufthansa, he worked for the newly created company and was a member of the board of directors from 1929. After the end of the Second World War , Bongers initially worked as a self-employed economic consultant before becoming an advisor to the Ministry of Transport in 1949. The then Minister Hans-Christoph Seebohm gave Bongers the "advisory contract for aviation matters" and the Bongers office was founded in Cologne . Bongers campaigned for the rebuilding of commercial aviation and was finally appointed in 1954 to the 1st board member of the then re-established Lufthansa AG . Bongers was a member of the board until 1965 and played a key role in the company's success. After leaving the board, Hans Bongers had a seat on the company's supervisory board for a long time.

Bongers published several books, including a. It Was In The Air (1971), and is the brother of drama teacher Else Bongers .
