Hans Dörries

Hans Dörries (born July 12, 1897 in Wesermünde - Lehe ; † May 9, 1945 in Dresden ) was a German geographer and university professor.

Life

From 1916/18 to 1924 Dörries studied geography and history with Hermann Wagner and Wilhelm Meinardus at the University of Göttingen . In 1924 he received his doctorate in Göttingen and became an assistant at Meinardus. In 1927 the habilitation followed in Göttingen. In 1934 he was appointed as a non-official extraordinary professor in Göttingen. From 1936 to 1945 Dörries was a full professor of geography at the University of Münster . From 1936 until his death he was chairman of the Geographical Commission for Westphalia .

In April 1936 Dörries was appointed head of the university study group for spatial research in Westphalia. Since 1937 he was a member of the NSDAP . On September 17th of the same year Dörries was appointed a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . From 1940 to 1945 he was Lecturer Association Leader at the University of Münster. In 1943 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1945 he was shot by Soviet soldiers.
