Hans Dehlinger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Dehlinger (* 1939 in Stetten im Remstal ;) is a German planning and design scientist , digital artist / algorist and was professor for the basics of industrial design in Kassel.

life and work

After completing his apprenticeship as a carpenter and graduating from high school, Dehlinger studied architecture from 1961 to 1968 at the Technical University of Stuttgart with a degree in engineering. Architect. He then moved to the USA on a scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley , where he received his M.Arch. completed. From 1970 he worked there as a teaching associate at the College of Environmental Design. In 1973 he switched to the Institute for Fundamentals of Planning at the University of Stuttgart as a senior assistant , where he stayed until 1980. In both positions he worked under Horst Rittel . In 1978 he received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. During this time he was in close contact (via Rittel, among others) with the Heidelberg study group for systems research and was involved in several pioneering research projects, such as B. on the "Development of a Documentation System for the Parliamentary Materials of the German Bundestag" 1969/70 and IBIS .

1981 Dehlinger was appointed as Professor of Foundations of Industrial Design at the Department of Product Design of the University of Kassel called. He strengthened the direction of design and planning towards systems theory through Helmut Krauch , Lucius Burckhardt and the then President Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker . He was a second member of the architecture department.

The core of his teaching activity was the event "Introduction to the basics and methods of planning and design", which was based on the systematic teaching with Rittel and J.–P. Protzen in Berkley and Stuttgart and was formative as a basic course in design and architecture. Another focus was his early use of the computer in design. In 1991 he founded the Institute for Computer-Aided Representation and Design at the University of Kassel and headed it until his retirement.

As a second member in the architecture department, he was subject to the right to award doctorates and was the doctoral supervisor of the rare doctorates in design.

His research focus was still in the field of design methodology, computer-aided design and the design of planning information systems. His list of publications includes a large number of articles, conference and catalog contributions as well as publications by the institute. Mention should be made of the publication of his lecture script on the Internet as early as the 1990s.

In 2004 he retired and has dedicated himself to his art ever since. He lives in Kassel.

art

Dehlinger began his art work in the 1980s. He calls it plotter graphics himself. His works can be assigned to computer art , more precisely to algorithmic art . His works have been shown and published in a large number of exhibitions at home and abroad, including regularly at SIGGRAPH since 1989 .
