Here Frick initially supervised projects that served to preserve German-language media in the former Soviet Union ; German-speaking newspaper editorial offices in countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States were equipped with modern electronics, young journalists from Germany were sent to provide language support, and newspaper sales in Germany were promoted. From 1990 onwards, Hans Frick worked on the editorial team of the Globus magazine , the quarterly organ of the VDA, of which he was appointed editor-in-chief on April 1, 2001. In this role, he built up a worldwide network of authors who reported in the newspaper about German-speaking communities, the history of German emigrants and immigrants, but also about the situation of the German language and culture abroad. He was particularly committed to developing and maintaining the VDA's internet presence. After fifteen years with the VDA, Frick retired; his successor there was Frank Schüttig .
