Hans Fromm (church musician)

Hans Fromm (born September 27, 1937 , † October 19, 1982 ) was a German church musician , cantor and organist .

Life

Hans Fromm studied at the church music schools in Dresden and Halle . Among other things, Hans Otto and Hans-Günther Wauer were his teachers. During his studies he worked at the parish of Dresden- Weißer Hirsch . At the age of 25 he was appointed lecturer for liturgical and artistic organ playing at the church music school in Dresden.

After his studies he worked as a cantor and organist at the Markuskirche in Dresden- Pieschen . Fromm has made a special name for himself in the field of organ improvisation , which he mainly used in the context of the liturgy . As an organist, he gave concerts in the Markuskirche with so-called "organ concerts with explanations". As a choir director he organized a cantata evening or performed an oratorio every year .

His concert activities took him to various church music centers in the GDR. Participation as a harpsichordist in numerous oratorios rounded off his work. In addition, Fromm was the permanent representative of the Kreuz organist . Before he could take up this position himself, he died in 1982 at the age of 45 after a serious illness.
