Life

Hans-Günter Richardi moved to Bavaria in the early 1960s. In 1961 he completed his traineeship in Munich at 8 Uhr-Blatt, the forerunner of the evening paper . Before he came to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, where he worked until his retirement, he worked as a journalist for the Münchner Merkur . From a book by Nico Rost , he learned about the situation of the former prisoners of the Dachau concentration camp . Shortly after moving to his wife Christa Richardi in Dachau in 1969, he began to study the contemporary history of the place. He interviewed various prisoners in the camp, including a. Georg Scherer , a work that flowed into his later books. Richardi deals with the history of National Socialism in his books . The author has received several awards for his research. Among other things, he is the holder of the Medal of Merit of the International Dachau Committee and the Citizen's Medal of the City of Dachau, as well as an honorary member and board member of the Dachau camp community . The first Dachau contemporary history guide was written by him.

Another topic that Richardi has researched intensively is the liberation of special prisoners and clan prisoners from the hands of the SS in South Tyrol on April 30, 1945. Richardi is co-founder of the contemporary history archive Pragser Wildsee , which is located in the Hotel Pragser Wildsee, where the Odyssey of the celebrities Inmates ended happily at that time.

In the Süddeutsche Zeitung he published many articles on architecturally and historically significant buildings and places in Bavaria, which were then also published in book form. In 1978 he received the journalist prize of the German Prize for Monument Protection .
