Contemporary history archive Pragser Wildsee
The contemporary history archive Pragser Wildsee (ZaPW) was founded in 2005 by Hans-Günter Richardi and Caroline M. Heiss and is located in South Tyrol in the hotel “Pragser Wildsee” on the Pragser Wildsee .
It documents
- early tourism in Alta Pusteria
- the beginning of alpinism in the Braies Dolomites
- the Dolomite Front during the Mountain War 1915–1918 as part of the First World War
- the liberation of special prisoners and clan prisoners from the hands of the SS on April 30, 1945 in nearby Niederdorf and their subsequent billeting in the “Pragser Wildsee” hotel until the end of the Second World War .
The archive works with the South Tyrolean Provincial Archives in Bolzano and the German Resistance Memorial Center . It organizes seminars on contemporary history and publishes the book series “Pragser Schriften”.
In 2011 the ZaPW received the "Martin Niemöller Peace Dove". This challenge award is named after Martin Niemöller , who was one of the one hundred and forty-one SS prisoners liberated in Niederdorf.
