Hans Gesellmann

Hans Gesellmann (born March 21, 1903 in Deutschkreutz , † February 17, 1977 in Mattersburg ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and elementary school director in Mattersburg. Gesellmann was married and represented the ÖVP in the Burgenland state parliament from 1960 to 1968 .

education and profession

Gesellmann was born as the son of the farmer Georg Gesellmann from Deutschkreutz and initially attended five classes at the elementary school in Deutschkreutz. He then went to the Benedictine grammar school from 1914 to 1918 and then to the teacher training college in Ödenburg , where he graduated from high school in 1922. He acquired the teaching qualification for the German and Hungarian language and was initially headmaster in Oberrabnitz from 1922 to 1926 . From 1926 to 1937 he worked as a senior teacher at the Roman Catholic elementary school in Walbersdorf and from 1937 to 1938 director of the Mattersburg elementary school . Gesellmann was taken into “ protective custody ” from March to May 1938 and released from school service. After being expelled from Mattersburg, he returned to Deutschkreutz and from July 1938 worked at Schoeller-Bleckmann in Ternitz . From December 1938 he was employed by the Apostolic Administration Burgenland, but was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1940 . He spent the period between April and September 1945 in British captivity. After his return from captivity, Gesellmann was reinstated as director of the Mattersburg elementary school in 1945. In 1956 he was appointed high school supervisor and retired in 1968 to retire.

politics

Gesellmann was district leader of the Fatherland Front between 1934 and 1938 and was therefore imprisoned in 1938. After the Second World War Gesellmann was elected to the local council. He was a member of the local council for 12 years, of which between 1954 and 1958 he was a city councilor for four years. Between May 5, 1960 and March 8, 1968 (resignation of his seat in the Landtag) he was a member of the Burgenland Landtag. Gesellmann was also involved in the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions , and from 1947 was a member and first chairman of the compulsory school teacher section. Within the party, Gesellmann took over the function of district party chairman of the ÖVP Mattersburg in 1959 and was district group chairman of the ÖAAB . In 1962 he became chairman of the newly founded ÖVP teachers' association.
