In 1953 he emigrated to the USA , where he combined study visits to various states as well as Mexico. Henry Miller was one of his close friends there . In 1958, Hans Graeder became an American citizen, but returned to Mannheim in 1964. As early as 1965 he had a major exhibition in the Kunsthalle Mannheim .

In 1973 he was commissioned by Sherwood Atelier Inc. NY for a portfolio from New York. A light happening “The Mannheim Water Tower became a lighthouse” took place in 1981 in which Hans Graeder hand-made slides (original works of art ) were projected onto the water tower .

In 1982 he took part in the exhibition accompanying documenta 7 with the painting “The Last Supper in Contemporary Art” .

In 1988, SWR3 broadcast the television documentary "Sculptural Painting" (called Clapage) and in 1990 a documentary on the exhibition "Re-Visions" in the Kunsthalle Mannheim. In 1995 RNF produced a documentation for the exhibition “Re-Visions II” in the Rathaus Galerie: graphic painting and sculpture .

As a trained lithographer , he was familiar with the printing processes of the time. An essential feature of his painterly work is a marked willingness to experiment in the field of technology. Graeder's work mainly revolved around the human figure; This resulted in nudes, pictures with portrait character, pictures that tell of incorporeal, shadowy figures or pictures that show figures embodied almost according to a naturalistic view.

Over the years, Graeder has repeatedly received public contracts at home and abroad. Mention should be made:

  • 15 murals 2 × 3 m (mosaic) f. Del. E. Webb Building, Phoenix, Arizona
  • Concrete mural, 30 m long, for the Ocean House, San Diego, California.
  • Installation made of wood, stones, etc. Steels for the BTZ of the Mannheim Chamber of Crafts.
