Hans Graf (soccer player)

Hans Wilhelm Graf (born August 6, 1923 in Cologne ; † June 23, 1977 there ) was a German football player . From the establishment of 1. FC Köln until 1958, he was one of the top performers alongside Hans Schäfer and Hennes Weisweiler . From 1951 to 1958 Hans Graf was team captain of 1. FC Cologne.

Life

Before Hans Graf came to football, he played tennis and took a. a. participated in the German Youth Championship. It was more or less by chance that a friend who was playing for the Cologne district club Bayenthaler SV took him to soccer. Up to the first team, he went through all of the Bayenthaler's youth teams and developed into a center forward. After a brief stint at VfL Cologne in 1899 , he came to 1. FC Cologne in 1948/49.

In the “billy goats” he was a defender, but also used as a left runner . Together with Stefan Langen and Frans de Munck , he formed the standard defense of Cologne for many years.

In the summer of 1958, Hans Graf ended his footballing career after 10 years and 246 games for 1. FC Köln. During his active time, he had already taken over a specialist tire and car accessories store from his father Johann on Luxemburger Strasse in Cologne, which he continued to run.

Hans Graf left two children from two marriages. In 1955 he married Katharina Lentz, his second marriage. He died at the age of 53 in a Cologne hospital.
