Jocelyn Blanchard (born May 28, 1972 in Béthune / Département Pas-de-Calais ) is a former French football player .
Career
The Frenchman started his professional football career at US Dunkerque , where he played for three years. After his apprenticeship, he moved to FC Metz in the French first division. The three years in Metz were so successful that he was signed by the Italian record champions Juventus Turin for the transfer fee of the equivalent of 6.5 million euros , where he played next season alongside stars like Zinédine Zidane and Didier Deschamps . Since then, Blanchard has had a close friendship with Zidane. After the year in Northern Italy, he moved back to France for RC Lens . After four years in Lens , where he became a leading player and team captain, Blanchard decided in the summer of 2003 to move to the traditional Austrian club and Austria Wien . He was a dream player of the then Austria coach Joachim Löw . Blanchard also developed into a leading player and undisputed team captain at Wiener Austria.
In the 2005/06 season he was voted the best player in the Austrian Bundesliga. This season he also celebrated the championship title and the cup victory with Austria . Austria also won the Austrian Cup with Blanchard in the 2004/05 , 2006/07 and 2008/09 seasons . In May 2009 it was announced that the expiring contract of the Frenchman would not be extended.
Blanchard then moved to SK Austria Kärnten for the 2009/10 season . In the championship game on February 20, 2010 against his exclusive club Austria Vienna, he suffered a fractured ankle. At the end of the season, Blanchard left the club, which filed for bankruptcy on June 14, 2010.
Blanchard has been the sports director of RC Lens since May 2011.
