Hans Hagen (film composer)

Hans Hagen , born in Hans Köstelbauer (born February 4, 1915 in Heiligeneich , Lower Austria , Austria-Hungary ; † May 14, 1979 in Tullnerbach , Austria ) was an Austrian conductor , orchestral musician, conductor , composer and film composer .

Life

The son of the café owner Köstelbauer attended a humanistic grammar school and received his artistic training at the University of Music in Vienna before he was drafted into the Wehrmacht between 1940 and 1945. Back in civilian life, Hans Hagen was employed as Kapellmeister at the Linz State Theater for three years from 1945. In 1948 he switched to Austrian radio, where he earned his living as a conductor. At this time, the first orders for the composition of film music were added.

Most of his scores were accompanied by Austrian productions of the Heimatfilm genre or films from a rural environment. Occasionally Hans Hagen composed for documentaries as well as for a considerable number (up to the end of the 1950s over 70 pieces) of radio plays. Hagen also recorded a plethora of records and worked with US production company Columbia Pictures, the BBC-London and the Hollywood Radio City Orchestra. In the 1960s, he concentrated his compositional work on television films.
