action

After two years at the university, forest scientist Florian Rohrbacher returns to his small alpine village. In the evening, the parish fair is celebrated, and Florian sees his friends from before. Old Josef Reindorfer is also at the party, as is his son Leopold with his fiancée Josefa, who is unloved by Josef, and his daughter Elisabeth with husband Ferdinand. Only the youngest daughter Leni is not allowed to attend the party. She is only 18 years old, and Joseph treats the always obedient girl more severely and more relentlessly than is good for her. The old foreman Pankraz persuades Leni to go to the party with him, so he wants to take responsibility for it in front of Josef. Leni sees Florian again at the party and dances with him. Both were friends as small children, even if Josef always tried to break the friendship between the two. Now Leni and Florian fall in love. When Josef sees them both dancing, he immediately takes Leni to him and sends her home. He later intercepts Florian's love letters to Leni, asks Leni to forget Florian, and finally forbids Leni's relationship with him. He also makes it clear to Florian that a relationship with Leni is never an option. When Leni indicated to him that in an emergency he would have two people on his conscience with his attitude, Josef Leni confessed the truth: Her deceased mother once had a brief relationship with Jakob Rohrbacher, Florian's father. Leni and Florian are siblings. Leni is shaken and packs her things. With Pankraz she discusses where to go and he recommends the farm of the alpine farmer. He lives alone with his little daughter Burgl and needs a maid.

Leni starts working at the alpine farm. The servants blaspheme that they are only targeting the rich farmers, but Leni works hard and quickly wins the heart of little Burgl, who was considered a particularly difficult child. Over time, a familiar relationship develops between Leni and the farmer, but Leni fears that there will only be an affair in the village. Meanwhile Florian has been looking for Leni all over the valley. Only the traveling dealer Thomas can tell him where Leni currently lives. Florian looks for Leni and thinks that she left him for the richer alpine farmer. Leni, however, admits that they are siblings. Florian needs time to process this message. The alpine farmer, on the other hand, is serious about Leni. He, too, has learned about her family constellation, but still loves her. He asks Josef for Leni's hand, and he agrees happily. Ever since Leopold married Josefa, she has tried to force Josef out of the farm and take him to a home for the elderly. The wedding of Leni and the Almbodenbauern is therefore a ray of hope for Josef and also for Pankraz, who is also a thorn in the side of the new gentlemen on the farm. Both men are not allowed to take the car to the wedding, but have to walk on Josefa's instructions. So they only reach the church when the wedding blessing is spoken. Leni is happy that her father showed up after all, and falls on his neck. The Almbodenbauer decides that Josef and Pankraz will live on his property in the future and Burgl is happy to finally have a grandfather too.
