Hans Haussherr

Hans Haussherr (born July 8, 1898 in Berlin , † September 17, 1960 in Cologne ) was a German historian .

Life

Hans Haussherr was the son of a businessman. He attended the Jahn Realgymnasium and Dorotheenstädtische Gymnasium in his native Berlin. Since 1916, he studied history, Protestant theology, philosophy and German at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin , where he in 1922 with a thesis on "The State in Calvin's thought world" at Friedrich Meinecke to Dr. phil. received his doctorate .

After receiving his doctorate host first worked in Berlin as Commercial employee and from 1926 as a high school teacher (1929 to 1945 teacher ). In 1937 he completed his habilitation in Modern History with Fritz Hartung . After the Second World War he taught history as a private lecturer in Jena . In 1946 he became a full professor for economic and social history at the University of Halle . From 1955 he was a full member of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin .

In 1958 the landlord gave up the chair for political reasons (in connection with the ban on the Spiritus Group ) and moved with his family to the Federal Republic of Germany, where he found his first point of contact at the Max Planck Institute for History in Göttingen . From 1959 he taught first as a paid lecturer, then as a diet lecturer in Medieval and Modern History in Cologne. He died there in 1960. His estate is at the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt in Halle.

His son was the art historian Reiner Haussherr (1937-2018).
